UNITED KINGDOM: Pupils give up on history lessons (The Independent)

More than two out of three youngsters have given up history by the time they reach GCSE level, according to new figures published today.

They show the numbers sitting history GCSE have steadily declined for a decade since 2007 past decade - from 35.4 per cent of the age cohort in 1997 to 30.9 per cent in 2007. That means a total of 453,679 youngsters failing to take the subject in 2007.
