ASIA COMMUNITY EVENTS AT NCSS 2008: Saturday, November 15

Asia Community Breakfast and Business Meeting
329 Hilton-Americas. Advance ticket purchase required.
The breakfast is time to get to know educators who are interested in learning and teaching about Asia. Current Asia Community members and prospective members will discuss the Community website and develop ideas for the Community-sponsored session and other events for NCSS 2009. Attendees are invited to bring flyers, samples of curriculum materials, and/or copies of lesson ideas for the resource table. Elections will be held.

Teaching about Asia Curriculum Demonstrations and Discussions
329 Hilton-Americas. Immediately following the Breakfast and Business Meeting.
Gordon Monaghan, Highland High School, Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Chen Qi, National Council for History Teaching, People’s Education Press. The session will offer a demonstration of curriculum for teaching about Korea. Professor Chen will discuss “Changes in History Teaching in China in the Last Decade.” Attendees will learn about Asia-related professional development opportunities and resources.

Members will share information about the Asia Community. Resource materials from Asia-related professional development organizations and resource centers will be available. Learn about Asia-related professional development opportunities and resources.

Embracing the Digital Future: Exemplary Internet Resources for Teaching Asia
332B Convention Center
Nicole Vickerman, Clark High School, Plano, Texas; Rachel Laymon, Lawrence North High School, Indianapolis, Indiana; and Catherine Ishida, Program for Teaching East Asia, University of Colorado. The session will highlight exemplary websites for curriculum, information resources, blogs, and multimedia sources on Asia. [Sponsored by the NCSS Asia Community].
