Social Justice Community- Annual Business Meeting Session
The Social Justice Community will have a business and session entitled,”Using multicultural children’s literature to teach social awareness.”
This session will provide an exploration into the components of multicultural literature for children and young adults as it relates to diversity and social justice. We will also focus in particular, on the dilemmas and debates around social awareness in a global society and current understandings of teaching and learning. Each participant will engage in discussion and related activities to further their understanding and exploration of two central themes: the use literature to integrate teaching for social awareness in the social studies curriculum, and other processes you might use to develop strategies to teach for social justice in the classroom. Free books will be given to participants!
The session and community meeting will be in room 335B at the Hilton Americas on Friday, November 14, 2008, at 11:30am.
All members are encouraged to attend and bring guests!
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
