African American Educators for the Social Studies

Welcome to the African American Educators for the Social Studies Community, formerly known as the African American Educators for the Social Studies Special Interest Group (AAESS). You must sign in to access the site but you must create a user name and password as your first step. I encourage everyone to participate and to invite others to join.

Purpose The purpose of our community is to explore issues facing African Americans in schools in general, and in the teaching and learning of social studies in particular. A major goal of this Community is to address topics involving curriculum, teaching methods and strategies, and general schooling philosophies as they relate to the African American experience in all institutional settings.

Instructions for joining a community Follow the steps below in order to join the community. (Please know that you must be a NCSS member to register in a NCSS Community.)

  1. Go to http://communities.ncss.org/
  2. Prior to joining a community, you must first create an account.
  3. After logging in with your new username and password, stroll down to the African American Educators for the Social Studies Community
  4. Click “join” and follow the prompts

  1. To ask a question; start a discussion; or share information, ideas, resources, or a good book, click on “Contribute Topic” at left. Label your topic with a subject area, grade level, or topic category.
